With open communication between the local Kindergarten teachers and LPLC’s teachers, our program focuses on preparing each child for Kindergarten.
Our preschool program incorporates the Connecticut Early Learning Development Standards (ELDS) and the Connecticut Documentation and Observation for Teaching System (CT DOTS) to guide instruction. All preschoolers participate in our daily circle/large group time where they learn about being part of our classroom community. They gain valuable academic skills such as letter/sound recognition, sight words, counting and songs. Children also enjoy a daily read aloud related to the theme for that week which will be prevalent in all of our learning areas throughout the classroom.
Each day different activities are set up throughout the classrooms that are based upon the theme of the week. These activities are offered to each child, in a small group setting with assistance from the teachers. Throughout the year, we have special events that are incorporated into our weekly theme. Some of these include “Teddy Bear Picnic”, “Cookie Decorating Party”, “Pajama Day” and Dinosaur Excavating Day”.
